Jordin “Real Deal” Canada

J Canada ShipWindward High School Girls Basketball team came into Citizens Bank Arena with only one thing on their mind. “Winning the championship”. From the time they entered the arena it was all business. No contact with friends, family or anyone that wasn’t a part of their fabulous 9 man roster with 8 ready to play, focused and ready to handle business was the only impression that came to mind as I evaluated their behavior. From tip off it was all Windward led by ’14 G Junior Sensation and perhaps the #1 Guard in the Country Jordin “Real Deal” Canada, she broke Mater Dei’s press single handed every single time and controlled the game from start to finish. The Monarchs tried every different scheme in the book to try to slow down Canada but she was too much, with behind the back crossovers between two and sometimes three defenders, to running by the Monarchs players like they were statues, in and outs and just the greatest display of ball handling by a boy or girl, her decision making was awesome hitting players with no look passes at times and even putting on a display of what a real crossover, between the legs step-back jumper looks like. The most amazing part is all this was done in rhythm and in the flow of the game. Nothing extra just all natural ability and a high IQ of the game. Canada played solid defense giving the Mater Dei’s players NO SPACE and too much pressure, called for a couple of bad fouls only made her play smarter and came up with some big time steals to help lead her team to victory. Jordin “Real Deal” Canada finished with 17 points and a impressive 14 assists as her Lady Wildcats (32-0) smash Mater Dei 81-71 for the CIF State Southern Regional Open Division Championship. Canada’s display last night on both sides of the ball truly defined what a true point guard looks like. Windward will play Bishop O’Dowd in the Open Division final on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Sacramento (Jackson @ptbsouth)
